If one thing I have discovered through years of traveling that booking hotels in advance is not always a way to get the best deals. On the contrary – last minute hotel search is the key. Still you have to know the best websites and apps where you can grab those appealing last minute deals. Read on to see the ultimate list of 3 best last minute hotel apps and also one amazing app to get accommodations for FREE.
The reason Hotel Tonight is on the list is that by using this last minute hotel app you can get great deals from hotels that give away empty rooms at discounted rates last minute – simply beautiful! I always wonder – why wouldn’t a hotel give a discount regarding that they have empty rooms? Finally someone have heard me. Give this app a try and let me know did you find a great deal!
If you haven’t heard of Hotel Tonight you have definitely heard of Booking.com. Yes, I know, it’s nothing new, still it is a good old classics. Booking.com still is one of the top last minute hotel apps to find the best deals. It has more than 1 million accommodation options to offer and some very delicious last minute deals as well. Trust me, I also often choose Booking.com over and over again after researching other cheap accommodation options. The biggest advantage for Booking is that it is well known and trustworthy. Most of the hotels are familiar with it and it has a good system so most likely there won’t be bad surprises of your booking never reaching the hotel like it can happen with unknown apps. Other great thing is that you don’t have to pay until you get there and most hotels offer free reservation change or cancellation up to 24 hours before arrival. This means you can make booking in advance and cancel or change it if you manage to find a great last minute deal.
Ok, it is not entirely a hotel searching app since it is a hospitality service by definition which is also known as “accommodation sharing” and is a centrally organized social networking service of travelers who offer or seek homestays either gratis or for money. However as one of the biggest hospitality services out there it has some of the best deals and like with Booking.com this site is well known and trustworthy. Best thing is that people like you and me can rent a room through Airbnb and this way you can usually find better prices than ones offered by hotels. However it is not always like that so be sure to search through all options before booking. Me myself use Airbnb regularly on my trips. My advice to you is – definitely read the reviews before booking, photos can be misleading, it’s best to book a room with plenty of good comprehensive reviews to avoid unpleasant surprises. Other than that – this app is awesome!
You have probably already heard of Couchsurfing. If not I will explain – it’s an accommodation sharing site like Airbnb. However it has one major distinction. You can find accommodations on this site for FREE. Yes, how amazing is that! I know, I know, it sounds sketchy.. The concept of Couchsurfing it self is beautiful – travelers sharing their homes so they could also stay at other people places for free. And you can also meet people for coffee, connect with locals or attend different events to meet other travelers which is great when you are a solo traveler. So where is the catch? It is in the research. When searching a place to stay and people to connect with, you must do your research. I have used couchsurfing many times and always checked if the people in whose homes I want to stay have excellent reviews (an a lot of them)! That is the key. I have heard unpleasant couchsurfing experiences as well but they are mostly the ones where the host didn’t have a good profile with lots of great reviews. I think Couchsurfing is an amazing opportunity to not only travel cheap and have accommodation for free, but also to connect with local people and get to know the culture and best local places, in other words – to have the real taste of the place. Like when me and my friends stayed in Madrid for one night Isidro showed us the places with beautiful views of the city, best tapas and sangria and introduced with his amazing friends and we talked a lot about Spanish culture and history – in one night we had the best taste of Madrid we would never get if we would have stayed in a hotel.
